What is Texas Holdem and How to Play It

When it comes to poker games, Texas Hold’em wins the popularity contest. It is a community card game where each player is dealt two cards face down and then five community cards are dealt face-up in the middle of the table. The aim of the game is to make the best hand possible using any combination of your two cards and the five community cards.

Rules of the texas holdem poker

The basic rules of Texas Holdem are as follows:

– The small blind is posted by the player to the left of the dealer and the big blind is posted by the player two to the left of the dealer.

– The dealer then gives each player two cards which are face down.

– The first round of betting then begins with the player to the left of the big blind. This player can either call, raise or fold.

– If this player calls, they must match the amount of the big blind. If they raise, they must at least double the amount of the big blind. If they fold, they give up their cards and take no further part in the hand.

– The dealer then deals three community cards face up in the middle of the table. These are known as the flop.

– Round two of betting starts with the player to the left of the dealer. This player can either check or bet. If they check, they choose not to place a bet and instead pass the action to the next player. If they bet, they must at least match the amount of the big blind.

– The dealer then deals two more community cards (the turn and river) face up in the middle of the table.

– The third and final round of betting then begins with the player to the left of the dealer. This player can either check or bet. If they check, they choose not to place a bet and instead pass the action to the next player. If they bet, they must at least match the amount of the big blind.

– If two or more players are remaining after the final round of betting, then these players go to a showdown where they reveal their cards, and the player with the best hand wins.

How to Play Texas Hold em – The Flop

The flop is probably the most important part of the hand as it is here that players will make their strongest hands. The flop is also where a lot of money will be won and lost.

After the blinds have been posted and the hole cards have been dealt, the first round of betting will take place. Once this has been completed, the dealer will then deal three community cards face up in the middle of the table. These are known as the flop.

The player to the left of the dealer will then have the option to check or bet. If they check, they choose not to place a bet and instead pass the action to the next player. If they bet, they must at least match the amount of the big blind.

If there is a bet made, then all other players must either call, raise or fold. If they call, they must match the amount of the bet made. If they raise, they must at least double the amount of the bet made. If they fold, they give up their cards and take no further part in the hand.

Once all bets have been made, the next card to be dealt is known as the turn.

The turn is the fourth community card to be dealt and is also where a lot of money will be won and lost.
